Tasting Notes
The producer describes the overall character rather than publishing separate detailed tasting stages. The following stays within that description.
- Nose: Peaty and aromatic.
- Palate: Smoky malt depth balanced by the gentler grain component.
- Finish: A separate finish description is not specified in the verified release information.
The Final Chapter of THE SUN
Saburomaru malt forms more than half of this blend. Bourbon-cask malt leads the composition, alongside whisky matured in mizunara-headed and roasted casks worked by local coopers. The grain component had already matured for at least 12 years before further maturation by the producer.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is THE SUN FINAL a single malt?
No. It combines Saburomaru malt with grain whisky. The label refers to Saburomaru malt and world-matured grain; it should not be read as a claim that every component was distilled in Japan.
Is this a 12-year-old whisky?
No overall age is stated. The 12-years-plus detail refers specifically to the grain component before its further maturation, not the age of the complete blend.
What does FINAL mean?
Wakatsuru announced this as the last release in THE SUN series. It went on sale on 19 September 2024.
Is it smoky, and how can I serve it?
Yes, the heavily peated malt provides a smoky character. As serving suggestions, try it neat, with a little water, or over ice according to your preference.
What packaging condition is shown?
