The second wine in a series supporting grape growers, this cloudy wine is made with Koshu grapes from Yamanashi. Warm citrus nuances give this clean table wine an exquisite character.

A message from head winemaker Keiji Yamada:

Why is it inexpensive? Our market research found that ¥1,300 was the lowest retail price possible. Fermenting Koshu grapes and bottling 750 ml for ¥1,300 plus tax is the absolute limit. I want people to understand that any wine made entirely from Koshu—grapes conscientiously farmed in Yamanashi and wine made completely by hand—incurs the same basic production costs. When we vinify a grower's grapes and make wine in Japan, the work is broadly the same and requires the same effort.

If it cannot sell at this price, it means our winemaking is not good enough. We set a price at which we believe a delicious wine can sell. We believe it is delicious, so it should find drinkers. If the wine does not sell and growers must remove their Koshu vines and replace them with more marketable table grapes, they still need time to make that transition. If it does not sell, we will stop; there is no other option. This wine embodies our hope and our wish for the future.

With the recent weak yen and severe economic climate, even everyday table wine will probably continue to rise in price. At this level, our wine retains at least a little competitiveness. Growing grapes is winemaking; cultivating Koshu is itself part of making wine. We want that work to continue.

We want as many people as possible to drink it—and, if possible, to drink plenty. Koshu is not aggressively individualistic, so it is easy to pair with food and easy to keep drinking. Long ago, Koshu wine was even consumed in place of water, though few people today cradle a large 1.8-liter bottle as they drink. Bottling it in 750 ml preserves freshness and lets you enjoy it at its best.

This release is Nigori Koshu 2025, a Japanese-citrus style of Koshu wine combining umami, generosity, calm, and underlying strength. Rather than stating everything sharply and directly, it communicates with a gentle touch.
