The Single Malts of Scotland Glenrothes 14 Years Old 2008 is a rich sherry-driven Speyside single malt independently bottled by Elixir Distillers at potent 58.2% cask strength in a standard 700ml bottle. Distilled in 2008 and matured fourteen full years in seasoned sherry oak casks, it delivers jammy dark stone fruit, thick honeyed malt, dried raisin, soft vanilla custard and warm spiced oak without thin youthful sharpness. Its aroma opens with blackcurrant and apricot jam, creamy golden honey, baked dried fruit, light caramel and polished spiced wood notes. On the palate, rounded lush fruit sweetness meets intense full-proof warmth, framed by well-integrated mature sherry oak tannins and faint floral herbal undertones. The lengthy finish lingers on dark fruit preserve, smooth toffee and layered cinnamon and clove oak spice. Best enjoyed chilled neat; a tiny splash of mineral water tempers its bold cask strength to reveal deep layered Speyside sherry fruit complexity for slow sipping.
