Extra Old Particular Arran 26 Years Old 1997 is an ultra-aged Islands single malt independently bottled by Douglas Laing, presented at potent cask strength 51.9% ABV in a standard 700ml bottle. Twenty-six years of slow oak maturation delivers preserved dark stone fruit, rich dried fig and raisin, creamy dark caramel, polished nutty oak, subtle coastal mineral and faint dried herbal spice undertones unique to Arran’s coastal distillate. The nose unfolds with thick jammy fruit compote, velvety aged vanilla and deep warm barrel wood sweetness. The palate balances concentrated dried fruit richness with seamless integrated oak depth, faint citrus zest and thoroughly softened rounded tannins. Its lengthy lingering finish holds lingering caramelised dried fruit and subtle saline wood herbal whispers. Best savoured neat with a tiny splash of spring water to temper its high strength and unlock layered decades-old malt complexity without harsh alcoholic sharpness.
