The Single Malts of Scotland Loch Lomond 18 Years Old 2005 is a layered fruited Highland single malt independently bottled by Elixir Distillers at natural cask strength in a standard 700ml bottle. Distilled in 2005 and matured eighteen full years in mixed ex-bourbon and sherry oak casks, it delivers ripe orchard fruit, viscous honeyed malt, dried apricot, creamy vanilla custard and mild warm baking oak spice without harsh sharp tannins. Its aroma opens with juicy pear and soft peach jam, thick golden honey, sun-dried stone fruit, light butterscotch and gently polished toasted wood notes. On the palate, rounded lush malt sweetness meets concentrated full-proof warmth, framed by silky well-mellowed long-aged oak tannins and faint fresh grassy Highland herbal undertones. The lengthy finish lingers on preserved summer fruit, smooth caramel and delicate layered cinnamon oak spice. Best enjoyed chilled neat; a tiny splash of mineral water tempers its bold cask strength to reveal deep layered Highland fruit malt complexity for slow contemplative sipping.
