The Story Behind 51
The brand traces its creation to 1951 by Pernod. That date explains the name: 51 is neither an age statement nor the alcohol percentage. Its association with the French Mediterranean aperitif tradition remains central to the brand's identity.
For the classic serve, Pernod Ricard recommends one part Pastis 51 to five parts water, with a little ice. For example, combine 20ml with 100ml water. Browse our liqueur collection to explore other botanical and flavoured styles.
