Tasting Notes
These notes summarise Suntory's product description and the photographed back label; they are not an independent tasting by Bottle Of Japan.
- Nose: An expressive, fragrant aroma.
- Palate: Soft and rich, with the rounded character of barrel-stored umeshu.
- Finish: The back label describes a long, whisky-derived aftertaste.
Two Ways of Bringing Casks into the Blend
The blend uses casks in two complementary ways: umeshu rests in barrels previously used for whisky, while grain whisky matures in barrels previously used for umeshu. Brandy adds another component to the blend. This is a plum liqueur, rather than a bottle of Yamazaki single malt whisky.
Suntory introduced Superior in Japan on 1 April 2025. The date marks the expression's launch, not a vintage or bottling year for this stock.
