Yamazaki Peated Malt Spanish Oak Kogei Collection 2024 700ml

Yamazaki Peated Malt Spanish Oak — Kogei Collection 2024 is a travel-retail-exclusive Japanese single malt whisky from the House of Suntory. The buying essentials: 700ml, 43% ABV, no age statement, combining peated Yamazaki malt with maturation in Spanish oak. It is the Yamazaki expression in the 2024 Japanese Kimono Edition, paired in the collection with a separate Hakushu release.

Why Buy This Yamazaki Kogei Collection?

  • Distinct flavour design: Yamazaki’s tropical-fruit character meets peated malt, Spanish-oak richness, dried fruit, chocolate and spice.
  • Travel-retail edition: originally released through selected airport duty-free retailers rather than the regular domestic range.
  • Official Chiso design: the label collaboration with Kyoto kimono house Chiso depicts the meeting of three rivers near Yamazaki Distillery through cloud-inspired gold details and misty tones.
  • Clear specifications: one 700ml bottle at 43% ABV. The whisky carries no age statement.

Craft and Edition Differences

Chief Blender Shinji Fukuyo revisited an early House of Suntory technique: pairing peated malt with Spanish-oak maturation. Suntory explains that the combination had once been considered too heavy for the Japanese palate, leading to greater use of American oak with peated malt. For the Kogei Collection, the approach returns in a more deliberate expression shaped by more than a century of whisky-making experience.

This is not standard Yamazaki, Yamazaki 12 Year Old, or Yamazaki Story of the Distillery. It is also different from the Hakushu bottle in the same Kogei release. Yamazaki’s warmer climate contributes tropical-fruit notes, while the peated malt brings smoke and Spanish oak adds dried-fruit, chocolate and baking-spice character. “2024” identifies the collection release, not a vintage or age statement.

Official Tasting Notes

The House of Suntory describes the Yamazaki expression as follows:

  • Nose: dark mocha, raisins and almonds.
  • Palate: deep smokiness and roasted cacao.
  • Finish: long, with bittersweet caramelised baking spices.

These notes distinguish it from the Hakushu Kogei expression, which is described as more citrus-led, herbal and cleanly smoky. Individual impressions can vary. Start neat to understand the intended balance, then add a few drops of water if you prefer a softer presentation of the smoke and oak.

FAQ and Official Sources

What exactly will I receive?

One 700ml bottle of Yamazaki Peated Malt Spanish Oak Kogei Collection 2024 at 43% ABV. Product photos are the reference for the current item and packaging. If presentation-box inclusion or condition is essential, please confirm with Bottle Of Japan before ordering.

Is this a smoky Yamazaki?

Yes. It uses peated malt, and Suntory describes deep smokiness on the palate. The profile also includes dark mocha, raisins, almonds, roasted cacao and caramelised spice.

Is this the Hakushu Kogei bottle?

No. This is the Yamazaki expression. Hakushu Peated Malt Spanish Oak is a separate whisky in the same collection with a different flavour profile and label design.

Does it have an age statement?

No. It is a no-age-statement single malt. The 2024 designation refers to the Kogei Collection release rather than the whisky’s age or distillation vintage.

Are import duties included?

No. Bottle Of Japan ships international orders DDU (Delivered Duty Unpaid). Customs duties, import taxes and clearance fees charged by the destination are the buyer’s responsibility and are not included in the product or shipping price.

Can I return the bottle?

Change-of-mind returns and exchanges are not accepted. If the wrong item is shipped or the order arrives damaged, contact Bottle Of Japan within seven days of delivery with the order number and clear photographs.
