Tasting Notes
These notes summarize Samaroli's description of the 2022 edition, with supporting detail from Japanese retailer Chagata Park; they are not an independent tasting.
- Nose: Dried fig, dates, honey and candied apricot, with saffron and a suggestion of lavender.
- Palate: Rich fruit and caramel associations balanced by expressive spice.
- Finish: Samaroli describes a lively, persistent impression rather than giving a separate finish note.
A Third Edition Inspired by Rome
Samaroli connects SPQR's identity with imperial Rome. Its purple-and-gold label carries a shield-like emblem, while the blend brings together two island origins. The bottler recommends trying it neat first, then exploring it in mixed drinks. Browse our Samaroli collection for more independent bottlings or compare styles in our rum collection.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where does the rum in this edition come from?
The 2022 edition blends rums from Jamaica and Mauritius, both identified as 2015 distillates by Chagata Park. Scotland is the bottling location, not the origin of those distillates.
Is 2022 the distillation year?
No. It identifies this edition and its bottling year. The blend uses 2015 distillates; we do not infer a precise age statement from calendar years alone.
What size and strength is this bottle?
This is the 700ml, 48% ABV bottling, labelled SPQR Blended Rum III Edition.
How should I serve it?
Samaroli suggests tasting it neat before using it in mixed drinks. A small initial pour can help you decide how you prefer its fruit and spice character.
Is packaging included?
Our stock record lists packaging as included. The product photographs show the bottle; contact us before ordering if a particular box style or condition is important to you.
Will I need to pay import duties or taxes?
Our Shipping Policy states that international orders ship DDU (Delivered Duty Unpaid). Applicable customs duties, import taxes and local fees are paid by the customer and are excluded from the product price and shipping cost. US and UK buyers should check their own destination requirements; EU buyers should check those of their destination member state.
