“I wanted to try aging whiskey in plum wine barrels.”
"Huh? Then there's someone who would be perfect for you?"
The timing was perfect, as if I had been waiting for this story.
From these words, this project took off.
If you ask me that, there is only one answer. Mr. Arimoto, summoned.
Last July, I flew to Ireland and visited a distillery.
Clonakilty Distillery was established in 2018. The Scully family has been farming for eight generations. Mr. Arimoto, who is serious about producing the most delicious plum wine in the world, is of course a plum farmer. People who know how to deal with the land and crops and grow them. From that encounter, this book was born.
Plumity Black, which has a rich and thick plum flavor, is packed in barrels and aged for about 8 months.
The rich fruit flavor of plum remains, but from the mid-palate, the vanilla scent from the whiskey barrel and gentle woodiness overlap.
A bottle that embraces a new worldview while preserving the charm of plum wine. Furthermore, the barrels in which this plum wine was grown were returned to Ireland.
Next up is Clonakilty whisky, which will put you to sleep. The story continues.
Ume Domaine ARIMOTO Clonakilty Distilley is a rare, refined Japanese umeshu bottled at 20% ABV in a 720ml bottle. This collaborative release by Arimoto Farm showcases Wakayama plum’s signature bright, fruity character, transformed by careful fruit maceration into a rich, multi‑layered expression. The nose reveals notes of ripe ume plum, dried apricot, honeyed orchard fruit, and soft floral undertones. On the palate, it is full‑bodied and silky, with flavors of ripe stone fruit, toffee, gentle fruity spice, and a touch of mellow fruit depth. The long, lingering finish underscores the authentic, well‑integrated character of this premium Kansai‑produced umeshu.
