Murray McDavid Caol Ila 5 Years Old 2018 is a youthful intense Islay single malt independently bottled by Murray McDavid at 51.5% ABV in a standard 700ml bottle. Distilled in 2018 and matured five full years in coastal ex-bourbon oak casks, it delivers sharp smouldering sea peat, bright citrus brine, raw green fruit and faint charred oak without soft mellowed balance. Its aroma opens with burning seaweed smoke, lemon rind, sea spray and light burnt vanilla wood notes. On the palate, zesty citrus brightness meets powerful high-proof warmth, layered with bold medicinal peat, sharp mineral salinity and firm young roasted oak tannins. The medium finish lingers on lingering coastal smoke, fresh citrus zest and robust charred wood spice. Best enjoyed chilled neat; a tiny splash of mineral water softens its fierce youthful smoky coastal intensity for approachable sipping.
