Tasting Notes
The nose follows Diageo's launch description; palate and finish summarize The Scotch Noob's independent 2020 review. These are source-based notes, not an in-house tasting.
- Nose: Wood smoke and pepper with orchard fruit, vanilla and sandalwood.
- Palate: The reviewer found creamy vanilla followed by earthy peat and smoke.
- Finish: The same review describes a medium-long finish, with honeyed sweetness and charcoal-like bitterness.
A Smokier Interpretation of Green
Island Green combines malt whiskies from across Scotland, emphasizing Caol Ila's smoky Islay character alongside Clynelish, Glenkinchie and Cardhu. Japanese retailer Mashimo describes it as a more intense, smokier interpretation of Green Label.
Diageo's July 2016 launch announcement introduced Island Green for travel retail. That is its release background, rather than a promise of duty-free pricing on this order.
